Kyro the Dog

Back in 2011, I agreed to pet-sit my neighbor’s five-year-old Husky, Kyro. He was skittish, so I instinctively did my best to make him feel safe. I paid attention to what frightened him, what didn’t, and why. There was something in his eyes. People would quietly call him an “old soul.”

I thought I was just dog-sitting for ten days. I had no idea that those ten days would change the trajectory of my life. Then I learned my neighbor could no longer care for him—and just like that, I had a Husky.

As Kyro slowly began to trust me, he came out of his shell. People would meet him and pause. They couldn’t always explain it, but they felt something—a presence, a steadiness, maybe even something spiritual.

Kyro would meet people and things would happen. Over time, our lives opened up in ways I never could have predicted—from Hollywood sets to encounters that felt less like coincidence and more like something guiding us forward. I didn’t plan any of it.

I knew there were parts of Kyro’s story I didn’t understand. He had a past he couldn’t tell me. And yet, over the years, some of the answers began to surface.

This is a story about the bond between a man and a dog—yes—but it’s also about trust, intuition, timing, healing, and the possibility that animals come into our lives for reasons we only understand much later.

Kyro’s story didn’t end when he crossed over in 2019. In many ways, it was just the beginning.
